Lately I have been thinking about how we allow the opinions of others to hold us back from adventures, joyful experiences, or accomplishments in our careers.
I was lucky to grow up loved; raised to be confident and have self-worth. I was taught not to allow others to limit me with their judgements.
The world, as we all know, can be unkind. It chips away at that even in the strongest of us.
I came across this quote from Virginia Woolf and was reminded of how much we miss when we allow others to restrict us:
“The eyes of others our prisons; their thoughts our cages”— Virginia Woolf
I must admit, I found Virginia Woolf late in life but her words resonate with me just as strongly as if I had always known them.
As an introvert, this quote feels like a motto:
“No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself,” — Virginia Woolf
