A very early memory from walks in the woods of New England as a child were the enchanting Lady Slippers.

The beautifully puffed pink flowers were fantastic to behold. I was convinced they had something to do with fairies!

I was warned to be careful of them, that they were protected and needed to be treated with respect. We kept a distance, but the vision of those flowers still floats to mind now and then.
